How do I know if my employee is eligible?
You do not need to work out if your employee is eligible for Parental Leave Pay, we will do this for you. If you are required to provide Parental Leave Pay to an eligible employee we will contact you.
How do I provide Parental Leave Pay?
The Government will provide Paid Parental Leave funds to you before you are required to provide Parental Leave Pay to your employee. This will enable you to provide Parental Leave Pay to your employee as part of their usual pay cycle. You will receive these funds fortnightly throughout the 18 weeks, or you may choose to receive them in three six weekly installments.
For more information refer to the how do I provide Parental Leave Pay to eligible employees instructions.
What payment notification do I need to provide?
You need to provide written notification to your employees when each payment of Parental Leave Pay has been made. This written notification needs to be provided to your employee within one working day of the payment being made. Written notification can be provided electronically. You can use your employee’s usual pay slip to notify them that they have received Parental Leave Pay, or you can provide a separate notice.
You do not need to notify the FAO when Parental Leave Pay has been provided to your employee.
Can my employees work while receiving Parental Leave Pay?
If your employee returns to work, your employee’s Parental Leave Pay will stop. If your employee decides to return to work before the end of their Paid Parental Leave period you will need to notify us. Your employee will also need to notify us.
Where you and your employee both agree, your employee can participate in workplace activities for the purposes of ‘keeping in touch’ with the workplace. This can occur for up to 10 days during the Paid Parental Leave period. For example, you may have scheduled a short training course and your employee may wish to be involved. This must be a voluntary agreement between you and your employee. You cannot make this a compulsory requirement for your employee. These days do not need to be taken all at once, and you will need to pay your employee their usual wages or salary for the time they attend work.
If your employee attends work under the ‘keeping in touch’ arrangements for more than 10 days during their Paid Parental Leave period, their Parental Leave Pay will stop.
